no easter?
we have a japanese exchange student at school at the moment ayumi, shes awsome and im gonna miss her so much when she goes home (in july). but hopefully ill get to go and visit her next year. but anyway i was talking to her in japanes lessons over the last couple of days... well we allways talk but its got onto religion reciently. and basically japan isnt really a christian country. altough it may be said that christianity is one of the main religions in Japan i do find this very hard to believe as where ever you go in japan you can allways find shirne or temples that are buddist and shinto but in while i was in japan, both trips i have only ever come accross 1 christian church and even then it was an english speaking congeragtion so it isnt even that much for the japanese people. dont get me wrong i actually hung out with some of the people from that church for the afternoon when i found the church and they had spoken to me about the hardship of being a christian living in japan. and i supose thats kinda really when i became determinded that i have to go back, and spead the good word to the people of that country which i love so much. anyway from my understanding and what ayumi has told me most people in japan chop and change between the 3 religions, christianity, buddisum and shintoism depending on what suits them best at the time, so not very religious at all, and i dont know much about the other 2 religions but it just doesnt seem right. and anyway ayumi and i were talking about easter reciently, and basically she had no idea what we were having a holiday for, so i tried explainign ti to her as best i could but it just boggled my mind that they dont have easter in Japan, like i dunno that could be good to coz here its way to commertiolised as is christmas and lot of other things so at least the only people celebrating it in Japan are actually doing ti seriously, and not like most people in Australia do. but i dunno i supose ive just always taken it for granted that we have a hoilday for it here, even though not everyone rejoyces in the mirical of it as i do. but knowing that they dont have easter like we do, it kinda broke my heart.
